I just moved to a new apartment and I literally want to paint everything about it! I was so happy I did this from the corner of my room before I went to sleep- a vase of roses with a photo of me and my parents. I tried something new- line drawing, did a small color study, then was able to colorpick from that and focus on the shape design in the second pass. Was kind of inspired from seeing Dan Cooper’s paintings at CDA- his paintings always have a small color key in the top right corner.
Oops haven’t posted in a while but here are some gouache studies from this past month. CTN was really great. My friend suggested I show my gouache sketchbook too and people responded really well to that, surprisingly (Robh Ruppel gave me some pointers!! Robh Ruppel!!). It was great meeting new people and seeing everyone’s portfolios.. even more motivation to work harder!
In the Color Key class I’m taking with Mike Hernandez (!!!!!!!!!!!!!) there was a model setup (he’s holding a rifle) with a green key light and a warm and cool fill light (I better be using those terms right…). I It was really fun/challenging and I hope to do more of these! unfortunately I think it was a one-time thing for class.
